This Year’s Amble Dedication

This year's Ammonoosuc Amble is dedicated to Charles F. Thibodeau.

"Charlie" unexpectedly passed away in November. He was the President of the ACHS Board of Directors at the time of his death. He was a consummate defender of our mission, advocate for our patients, mentor to our leadership and staff and accessible to all of us.

His volunteerism within the organization was exemplary. He would drive to Concord with ACHS CEO Ed Shanshala to meet with legislators or attend a hearing on behalf of ACHS; he was at every ACHS Board Committee meeting, reached out to be accessible to the staff at all 5 ACHS sites; and he served on the Amble Commitee and was a presence for many years at the Ammonoosuc Amble, filling race bags the night before the race, parking cars and washing dishes on the day of the race, always ready to help - regardless of the task!

He proudly served on the ACHS Board of Directors for over seven years, leading the organization as our Board President during the past three years. With Charlie’s passing we have lost a great friend and wonderful colleague. He will be truly missed.

The following is an excerpt from his obituary reprinted with permission from the Littleton Courier...

Charles Francis Thibodeau, 71, of Lisbon, died suddenly at his home on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013. He was born 1942 in Boston, Mass. to Charles and Margaret (Thomas) Thibodeau. He received his bachelors of Science degree in biology from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Mass. He furthered his education at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., where he received a master’s degree in administration. He also received a certificate of advanced study from Boston University. Charles was retired after 40 years in education as a superintendent, high school principal, teacher and coach. Charles is survived by his children: Richard Thibodeau and his wife, Fumiko, serving in the U.S. Navy stationed in Japan; Amy Thibodeau and Stephen Thibodeau, both of Rochester, Minn. and grandchildren, Danielle Thibodeau and Ryan Thibodeau. Also, two stepchildren, Hilary Bradshaw and her husband Justin of Monroe and Nathan Aremburg of Morrisville, Vt. and two step-grandchildren, Holly and Hudson Bradshaw.

21st Amble Benefits Oral Health Initiative

The Ammonoosuc Amble is ACHS’ largest fund raiser of the year. The focus of this year’s event is bringing affordable oral health care to the North Country of New Hampshire, and YOU are part of the solution!

ACHS is keenly aware of the challenge of finding affordable oral health care in the North Country. During the past 18 months, in collaboration with Littleton Regional Healthcare, Cottage Hospital, the North Country Health Consortium, Molar Express and the NH Department of Health and Human Services, we have been bringing Adult Oral Health Clinics to the most acute oral health situations in the LRH and Cottage Hospital catchment areas, which includes the 26 towns ACHS serves.

Recognizing the need for more comprehensive oral care services, ACHS is actively working to open an Oral Health Facility at its Littleton location in the coming year. The groundwork for this project is well underway, and we hope to provide cleanings, screenings, basic dental procedures, education, and referrals to specialists for more in-depth dental care for some of our neediest patients in 2014. The oral health facility will be available to all ACHS patients, with a sliding fee scale available for payment of services to those who qualify.

Although we are working collaboratively with federal, state and local organizations to secure funding for this facility, your participation in the 21st Annual Ammonoosuc Amble as a sponsor, participant and/or fundraiser will assure that oral health is available to all regardless of social or economic status. We appreciate your support as we strive to help patients remain as healthy as possible!

Thank you so much for being part of the solution!
